Hi all,

I want to install windows on my macbook pro (4gb ram, 2.83ghz late 2008 model etc) to play games like fifa 09, fifa manager 09 and some shooting games. I dont know what would be best. eg, xp 32/64 bit, vista 32/64 bit, or the new windows 7.

Could someone please tell me what i should install.

Thanks.

If your CPU is 64-bit, I would guess that a 64-bit operating system would be best. I personally don't like Vista very much, so I would run XP, but I don't game too much so I don't know what games (if any) only run on Vista - conversely there may be some games that still have problems and compatibility issues with Vista. You should probably shouldn't consider Windows 7 until it's released.

XP. As far as many are concerned, it's the only viable version of Windows.

Stay away from XP 64 bit. No drivers. Use XP 32 bit. It's faster, uses less resources, and has lots of drivers.

Regards.

I run XP32, but WIndows7 64 runs great also in Fusion.

Win7 runs great in Fusion (I love mine!!!), but has some driver and compatibility issues. While I am not a gamer, I have read elsewhere that there are issues with it and I would stay away from Win7 if your primary interest is gaming, at least until final release. I always recommend XP32 since virtually everything is compatible with it, drivers abound and are stable, etc. I would only go 64-bit if you have a piece of software that absolutely, positively must be run only in a 64-bit environment, and there are precious few of those.

Cheers

Don't use 7 - it's still a beta and while it runs fine for me in a vm, it could go south anytime. Go with XP 32bit. Uses less resources that Vista and Vista won't offer any advantages for gaming unless your game requires DX10 which is probably doesn't.

umm, not a tough one actually but... all of my xp experiences on my mbp was disasters, i hate xp with a passion. On the other hand i kind of liked vista. It was working fine for me and also was not that slow at all. And the latest hit the new shiny windows7. It is awesome as far as windows' concerns..i am actually on w7 right now. It is blazing fast and not that buggy actually. I have the rc the 7100 build, and the gaming experience was far more flawless than vista. I constantly play NFS UnderCover and love it.
I would definetely recommend w7 32-bit. It works great.

Except that it is not a final product (and thus more prone to errors) and expires June 1, 2010. Plus, who's to know that the drivers will work properly and allow the cards to work to the full potential. Avoid W7 for now as a full time OS.
