Slow USB speeds

I just purchased a new 16GB sony USB stick. It was 40$ compared to the others at 60. Did I end up with a slower stick? I am tranffering giles and it seems to be really slow? Show I format it first or is there different speeds for a USB? The computer is a MacBook and its all USB 2.0.

If they are thousands and thousands of small files, compared to big movie files, it may slow down

If you are just using that stick for macs, you might want to reformat it as Mac OS Extended, its probably formatted as FAT32 by default

It seems to be transfering at 1 MBPS. 10 minutes for 580mb?
