• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I am new to editing on a Mac and I would like opions from those who are somewhat advanced but not necessarily pro's.
I recently purchased final cut express to make movies from videos but found it was not designed for still images. I would like opinions on software programs that are advanced from I photo that would work well, have a good varity of transitions and effects to transfer stills of old pictures into good quality dvd movies. I have used pinacle programs on a PC with some success but but had a great deal of trouble with crashes and lockups so i decided to go with the IMAC
I am open to those who are somewhat experienced so that Start out with a better program and less trouble. I am considering Apeture but I don't know it is the right way ro go.

Aperture is an advanced app for editing and managing your photos. It does not have the ability to create a movie from your photos.

iMovie 09, part of the new iLife 09 suite looks pretty slick for what you're wanting to do. Here's a short video on how to create a movie from your pictures with it. These can also then be imported into FCE.
