Hi everybody

I got my new macbook 2 weeks ago and i have some question:
How should i use the macbook in order to keep my battery life for long time?

This is the way I'm using it right now:
If I'm at home i keep it connected to power adapter (not alweays)
The qestion is :Should i do that or should i use it differently?

Thanks !

you can use it however you like, if you feel like sitting somewhere without dragging the cable then do so ... I do keep mine connected when I can or when I'm not too lazy to drag the cord with me, the battery has a limited number of cycles but it also has a limited age

however it is a good idea to drain your battery once every few weeks to "keep the juices flowing"
just run on battery until the computer shuts down, then plug it in and charge it completely, this way your battery will last a bit longer and keep it's capacity

if you want you can try CoconutBattery, which is an app that lets you see how your battery is doing

Check this page.

Also, read the links on "How to calibrate..." and "How to maximize...".

Mine is connected to the power adapter pretty much all the time and I do the calibration once a month as suggested.

I think once a month is a good choice, I do that too (in my above post I forgot to mention to leave the computer off before charging, but I'm sure you will find that in the link from bobtomay and probably better written too :) )

I read apple page

and they say that is not recommanded to leave the power adapter connected to the computer all the time . the thing is that alot of people told me to keep the computer connected to the power adapter but it's completely the opposite from what apple say.
I'm paranoid,i know but i want to use the computer that best way i can

thanks

My current battery is now 7 months old. It has 24 cycles. At a rate of calibrating it every 150 cycles, it would never get calibrated until after it was dead. Whoever suggested that knows nothing about rechargeable batteries.

edit: Don't take my word for it either. All the info you need is in the link above. Personally, I would believe Apple in this matter.

All I can tell you is what I do and point you in the direction of what Apple advises. Have not done any experimentation as to the ramifications of the differences between the two.

My MBP is a desktop replacement and it stays connected to the power adapter 98% of the time. Don't sit at a desk. I sit in my recliner in front of the TV. Once in awhile it gets taken to the bedroom.

According to what Apple says, this is not the best way to treat the battery. Don't really care. That's the way I use my computer. You will have to decide for yourself after reading and understanding the recommendations, whether to follow them to the letter, some portion of them, or none of them.
