Anyone ever had a non-parent buy an Apple computer and then get the educational discount?

What if my uncle wants to get a Mac as a gift. Can I somehow apply an educational discount after the purchase or must I go with him to purchase it? Saw the deal about parents, but what if it is not a parent?

Is there a name or anything identifying on the bill for a student discount? Just asking, as my uncle may have some tax benefits if my name is not present.

Anyone can buy from Apple's online education store. It asks for the name of the school you attend, but proof of attendance is not required.

You do need to provide proof of attendance when making your purchase.
While it is not always needed at the time of sale, Apple does and has cross-checked this information with the school you claim attend.

I have personally seen people lose the discount and receive a bill for the difference when it was found that they don't attend the school they list and cannot provide proof of it.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy through a catalog, etc...

You will get better discount if you find an Apple partner or a company they buy their components from, fatter discount....

:)

Like Intel, etc...
