OS X and Epson Printers

I've just bought an epson r285 printer and I can't get it to work with my imac (intel) with os x leopard 10.5. It just simply doesn't see the printer - tried following the links to download relevant drivers from epson but i have no idea what to do with these or whether it has worked. Can anyone help me out with an effective procedure to get this working? I'm not completely computer illiterate as i make my living as an FCP editor but i don't understand too much techy computer speak. Many thanks

I just had a heck of a problem with a canon pro 9500, and know very little about these things, but did you actually click on the downloaded driver icon and open the driver, and then click the install directions? That's the next step.
