Problem with Jpg using MacMail

I've saved a drawing in photoshop as a jpg at 300 dpi, the file size is 140 KB. When I attach it using MacMail the size becomes 16KB and is too small and pixalated. Any ideas?

Is this MacMail the built in Mail application?
or is it a separate application you downloaded?
