Ibook application failure

Hi,

first post, so im sorry if ive dropped this in the wrong place.

Ive got a ibook 600MHz power pc G3 running 10.4.11 OS X. The ibook has 384MB Ram.

Right onto my problem, The ibook is second hand , i brought it as a backup for myself or if i want to do any work away from home or at univeristy. It is a tad slow but works just dandy.

Recently however ive noticed that certain applications wont work anymore, by that i mean, they bounce for maybe 10 seconds then vanish, also i cant install and use any new applications. Ive tried all the repair disc permissions etc but nothing works.

I think the only thing left is to just reinstall my operating system, unless anyone can suggest anything else? If not ive another problem, the laptop does not have the discs with it :'( but im prepared to buy new operating system discs but im unsure which ones i should buy.

Do i need to get the original ones like this : Original Apple iBook G3 Install & Restore Discs 10.2.1. on eBay, also Mac OS, Operating Systems, Software, Computing (end time 12-Mar-09 12:08:21 GMT)

Or can i buy any OSX discs like bar leopard (becos obviously i dont have a intel mac)

Many thanks
