What you are seeing on the screen is a Kernel Panic. KP's can be caused by defective hardware like say RAM but also happen when there are problems with OSX. Do you have the DVD's to reinstall? If so that is the first thing I would try. Are you plugging in anything when booting like some USB device?
Replace the RAM. If that doesn't work, then it's likely that some component on the motherboard is dead and the computer would be useless at that point.
You say when you hold down C after the startup sound with the OSX disc in the drive it spits it out. What OSX CD/DVD is this? Black? Gray? What does it look like and say on it?
it spits it out....And i think i found the problem..i just talked to a guy about it and he said that the OSX 10.5.4 leopard wont work with the computer...i need tiger. thats why im getting the Kernel warning
Is it an iBook G4? If so leopard should work fine. I bet that 10.5 DVD of yours is an Intel installer that came with an Intel Mac. If that is the case, your friend is correct.
Even if it is a G3 it would boot and come up with a screen saying it's not able to install. The KP to me means your install DVD is for an Intel Mac. What color is the face of the DVD?
