Hey guys, im curious..
Can you mix and match RAM? So essentially have a 1gb stick in one slot and a 2gb stick in the other, making 3 total?

I was under the impression that the 2 sticks had to be of equal value?

But a friend says his MBP is telling him the max amount of RAM he can have is 3gb.. So I assume my information is wrong?

Cheers.

You can have unequal amounts of RAM in your machine but you will not be as fast as it could be. For example, my old macbook pro could only use 3GB of RAM. But if you put 4GB it would run. With 3GB it was fine. With 4GB it was about 15% faster (I got this figure from a report on the net). It will run with RAM with different amounts but it is a little faster with equal RAM.
