So I have an old ibook everything is great on it except the ethernet port.
I bought a macbook cause I could no longer connect to the internet and it was time to upgrade.
But I want to use my old ibook for storage.

Do I have to do something special to make it mount on my macbook,
I've already transferred all data over and have it backed up on another external HD.
But if I restart the macbook holding down 'T' with the firewire cables connected, I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do.
I get the firewire symbol bouncing around, but will that transfer all my data again, even though there is nothing on the ibook?

Any help, sorry I just can't seem to find how to do this properly anywhere, and just plugging it in and restarting the macbook seems like it still won't mount....

Thanks, appreciate the lameness of this conundrum.

Your Mac's Specs
Aluminium Macbook 2.4 Ghz 4GB RAM, SSD 24" Samsung Display, iPhone 4, iPad 2
You need to hold down the "t" on your iBook, not your MacBook. Then the iBook will show up as a firewire disk drive on your MacBook's desktop.

But it seems like a shame to waste an iBook by turning it into an external harddrive: You could probably sell it on ebay for much more than the cost of a much larger external harddrive.

Good point!
I didn't even consider that.
The only thing broken on it is the ethernet port, easy enough fixed.
I just wanted an upgrade as well and since I was living overseas in Japan it was easier to buy a new one, with such a good deal.

Thanks, think I'll sell it. ;)
