New to macs and I'm trying to get data off my old windows laptop harddrive. I've already copied data to my mac, but it will not let me delete files from the harddrive. The plan was to delete all this old info and send it to my dad, who now has the old laptop. When I click "get info" it says "you can read only" and doesn't give me any other options. Does anyone know if there's a workaround to get the data off, or am I just going to have to put it back in the old laptop and do it that way?

Thanks guys!

The drive is probably formatted as NTFS and therefore is read only from a Mac. Without third party software you can not write to it or delete files from it.

What you can do, however, is hook it to your Mac and run Disk Utility. Use Disk Utility to highlight the drive and then erase it. Format the drive as DOS (FAT-32). Then send it to your Dad.

Regards.
