i work at Best Buy and my mangers had a meeting today.. when they came out i was told that all the apple computers on display now are going on clearance and we are getting new ones next month. but we have all the new aluminum models and apple is not coming out with a new model Macbook.. so it has to be snow leopard... we have not dates yet...

so what are your thoughts?

Seems logical, but You would think there would be a more cost effective way for Apple and Best Buy to sell the old machines as opposed to putting them on clearance.

I highly doubt it... with where the build is not that much hype about it yet I don't think so.

I would say June...

I would love to believe it but I don't think that is the reason. They could be simply changing the display. Or maybe it is something to do with the new iMacs and 17" pro.

I'd bet more on this possibility than Snow Leopard.

Thread title should be changed as well since it's quite misleading.

Poor wording on the thread title. I also find it hard to believe that ANY Apple news leak would come from a Best Buy manager. Nonsense.

Not going to be Snow Leopard. A new developer seed was just put out that expanded the testing parameters. Snow Leopard is not ready to be released yet, so there's no way it's coming out before WWDC, a venue that Apple is sure to use to go on and on about all the new developer features that are part of Snow Leopard.

Its probably about an expected refresh of the desktop range, the iMacs, Mac Minis and Pros

Yep, what I'm waiting impatiently to see if they bring the i7 chips.

Although, I may be forced to get a Win box since there is yet to be a way to play commercial B-R disks on a Mac.

They bring the new port out, but still can't play the only real HD content available for purchase. Doesn't make much sense to me.

The Mac desktops are in desperate need of a refresh. I hope it happens soon - as I think everyone does.

Well, I'm mainly talking about the Mac mini. 160GB max HD space is just not enough these days. It needs new processors, and more RAM standard.

What do the desktops so desperately need?

The Mini needs 2 GB of RAM, minimum, a DVD burner as standard equipment on all models, 250/320 GB hard drives instead of the current 80/160 GB ones, faster/newer processors, and GeForce 9400M graphics or at least an Intel X3100 to replace the ancient GMA 950.

The iMac also needs 2 GB of RAM on the low end, larger hard drives across the board, newer graphics chips (the Radeon HD2xxx series is very old, and the HD2400XT is so slow it's on par with shared graphics chipsets), better processors (hopefully some quads on at least the high end config), and hopefully some price cuts.

I agree with the above about the imacs.. But the number one thing I'd have to say is up the graphics chipset to something much more cutting edge.

And secondly I think the use of the 800mhz ram and more bus speeds etc etc. You know all those non CPU speed things that actually improve performance a heck of a lot. All that I think need a good upgrade

And if they want to up the CPU ghz, it would be nice but to me not exactly needed. I would though make the 3.0 ghz the standard though. And remove the 2.x ghz versions.

Lastly, make a Matt screened option available. It'll sell I'm sure of it.

Or maybe Best Buy has decided to drop Apple? (or vice versa)
