how to format a external hard drive in disk utility

Hi everyone! i wish you could help me:


someone gifted me a seagate external drive that its supposed to work on windoze, but i read over the web that i can "flash" it to be usable in my macbook pro.
Does anyone knows how to make it work on mac?? i mean with disk utility app

Just re-format it as FAT32 - this will erase everything that's currently on it, but it will be readable/writable by any operating system. To do this in Disk Utility, select the drive and click on the Erase tab, then where it says "Volume Format" choose FAT32 (it may call it "MS-DOS").
