Hi

having recently switched to Mac im a bit unsure of a few things

I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2.5Ghz 4GB DDR2 667mhz Ram

A friend of mine says it is possible to upgrade this to 8GB DDR2 667mhz Ram and when Snow Leopard is released it will allow the system to address all 8GB

Is this true or is it only the New Jan 2009 onwards MBP that has support for 8GB of ram (DDR3 in the new version)

Ta very much

We don't really know if the 4 Gb limit of memory that your MBP can currently access will be changed by Snow Leopard. The newer MBP (2009) has been reported to be able to access 6 Gb of memory in Leopard. What it will be able to access with Snow Leopard is again uncertain. 64 bit operating systems can access many times the amount of memory that a 32 bit OS can, however, we need to keep in mind that there are also hardware limitations involved.

Regards.
