Hey I'm coming down to only a few gigs left on my MBP 15". I have a 120gig HDD and I now want to install windows xp. I was trying to figure out ways to install it on my external HDD but couldn't find a good solution after google-ing forever.

What are some good 250 gig internal HDD choices for a 15" MBP. I would probably get a 7200rpm, so things will also run a bit faster.

Go with a 320GB Seagate 7200rpm. The cost difference is negligible, and you'll get much better performance. And with a Seagate drive, you've got a 5 year warranty.

You can't install Windows on an external drive, period. This is a Microsoft-imposed limitation, not a Mac thing.

I seconded the vote for the 320 at 7,200rpm. They are solid drives and worth he little extra.

I still say go with the Seagate. Might as well have the 5 year warranty. WD drives are pretty decent too, but in my experience, they get noisy as they get older.

Before I purchased, I read good reviews of both drives. The WD also comes with a 5 year warranty.

Either drive would be a good choice, in case you do go for the WD option - make sure you go for the WD3200BEKT as opposed to the WD3200BJKT, there have been stories of a conflict in the free-fall sensor in the BJKT and the one built in the macbooks.

I did not know that WD was doing 5 year warranties now too. Thanks for that.

No worries, I was surprised too, but it helped in my decision.

Also I forget to mention, I think I'm right in saying it's not just the WD drives where there have been reports of problems with HD's with a free-fall sensor - probably best to stay away from them full stop.
