• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi Guys,
Newbie to group here!
Salutations!

I am looking for a couple of App's to try to capture youtube and Google video's to my hard drive that I can port to iPod.

Hopefully you can spare a line or 2 of your exp of the app's goodness.. even a 1-10 scale of usefulness. 1=crap, 10 = phenomenal ..

Cheers from downunder,

You don't even need an app when your watching a video using safari go to Window>Activity> Go to the youtube drop down and look for the largest file and then double click it and it should download. Then go to the file in which it was downloaded (usually downloads folder) and rename to anything you want with an extension of .flv

What dbnoise and Toyman said above me are both easy ways to do it. If you want to use an app, TubeTV always worked well for me, but now I use the Safari thing because its just a bit easier.

the aforementioned ways are great ways of getting youtube videos, but i use a program called Tooble. It gets the video, encodes it in iPod format, and adds it to iTunes automatically. Might wanna check it out!...

Something has changed

I used to be able to capture YouTube videos using the activity window and downloading the large file.

This does not work anymore as YouTube apparently breaks down the file and sends it in smaller packets that are not readily identified.

Has anyone found a work-around for this problem?
