Fan runs all the time ... except when it is hot

So, my fan runs almost all of the time. It is usually above 6000 rpm. The exception? When it is hot. Then it runs around 2000 rpm.

Any ideas? It has been this way as long as I can remember, I just haven't ever done anything about it.

You would think the thresholds would be flipped....

No idea why they would be flipped like that, but have you checked Activity Monitor to see if there are any processes that are eating up your CPU?

Thats wierd, since it is only the left fan which is going nuts. Did you try resetting your SMC and PRAM?

Just reset both - no change

You've got a defective fan and\or possibly a thermal sensor which is not working right. Either way, it's probably best to let the genius bar at Apple take a look at it. Is you machine still under warranty?
