Hey,

I was wondering if this HDD will work on my G5 (Late '04 1.8 GHz):

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

It looks like a good deal. I have an ATAdrive right now and my second slot is empty in the machine. I imagine I'll need to format the drive or something, but I don't know a lot about adding components so I wasn't sure if it needs to be a certain kind of hard drive? Sorry if this is a stupid question or if I'm a stupid person in the realm f Macs for asking the question. Bt if someone could say "yes, go ahead with it, it will work" or "no, it will mess up your mac." It'd be much appreciated. I'm trying to do research to spare everyone from these newbie questions but I haven't covered everything yet and need this unit now.

It will work if you install a Sata PCI Controller card but these are not cheap!

Thank you both for the info:) How do I know which PCI controller card I need though? I see that they start at around $139.00 but can go up to $500.00+

I don't mean to question, but is not Serial-ATA the same as ATA. All of my components say they are Serial-ATA when I look at the profile.

Wrong type of drive. Your Power Mac G5 can only accommodate an ATA type drive. See the following Apple KB article regarding changing hard drives in your machine.

No, SATA is not the same as ATA. Different speeds, different controller. If your profiler says the drive you currently have is SATA, is it possible that you may already have a PCI adapter card installed?

It must be because my profile does say Serial-ATA.
