Trouble printing from "Numbers"

Yesterday I was playing "catch-up" on some work with "Numbers". I printed out several spread sheets then all of a sudden the ugly yellow side arrow blinked it's head off, telling me I was "not connected to the printer" - even though I was still able to print from gmail, word and other sites. Why, all of a sudden, would numbers not be able to print? One message was "printer is ready" and when I tried to print, the message came up - "printer is not connected"..... I am at a loss to understand this. Any suggestions?
