OSX 10.4.11 is the final version of Tiger. OSX 10.5 is Leopard a new Operating system and as such you have to buy it. So far the free point releases have taken Leopard to 10.5.6.

If you buy a retail Leopard disk and install it you can download the free combo update from Apple to take it to 10.5.6.
Make sure you buy a Black retail disk with a large X, the grey ones are for the Macs they came with and will not work.

There are three install options ~ upgrade which is default, archive and install keeping settings which just slides a new OS under all your files and keeps a previous system folder and erase and install which will remove everything including iLife. Good backups required just in case no matter what you do.

iLife is on your original discs but is not part of the Operating system. It is installed on all new Macs but updates are charged for ~ iLife '09 is just out.
