Can we split iPhoto's library file if it gets too big?

Can we split iphoto's library file if it gets too big? like larger than 25Gb.

Sure. Just hold down the option key while opening iPhoto. You will be prompted to choose or create a new library. Create a new one. Then you can move your photos from one to the other. An app like iPhoto Library Manager can really be of help here. If you simply want to move what you have to an external, do this: iPhoto: How to move the iPhoto Library Folder to a new location.

That's a cool trick, but will iPhoto pull from both libraries simultaneously? I would like to do that with iTunes for stuff i use more often to keep on the MBP, and other stuff not so often on an external drive. But I would want iTunes to display both when connected to the external.
