Hi,

I've got the basic Macbook, nearly a year old. I want to delete the applications that come with the OS to free up memory, but somebody once told me that deleting the original system applications can adversely affect the operation of the OS. Can anybody tell me if there's any truth in that? It sounds a bit daft.

Sorry folks, I've realised that this is the wrong forum for this question. Can't figure out how to delete it.

No, it won't adversely affect the operating system if you delete applications. However, it should be noted that the applications don't actually take up that much space. Going by a cost/benefit analysis, it's easier to just leave them on your hard drive compared to the hassle of getting them back on from the recovery discs.

If your machine came with iLife, you could save approximately 2-3GB by getting rid of Garageband's support files.
