Hi all, Well like the title says iv been trying to convert my mkv video to divx avi with ac3 to be able to stream to xbox 360 with connect360 but im crazy about having 5.1 when streaming. Here is the log. Now after doing a bit of testing I realized it happens when I choose passthrough. The first attempt when I downloaded ffmpeg was this and I would get video in vlc but the audio would studder. Now attempting will not encode fully. If I took that same file and then stream to my xbox, the video was too fast but the sound was fine. Instead of that I then tired Dolby Ac3 (even though the source file is already ac3) but even in I choose 5:1 but it bumps is down to 2 channel regardless for some reason, however it encodes the video 100% and I get sound. But no 5.1? No deal. I need help, im going to be bald soon.

I used to use a pc for this and was simple for wmv but since divx is supported on xbox I wanna use my dual core mac for the jobs. Anyways here is the log below when I choose passthrough. These only get done about 60mb and says finish.

Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

It doesn't directly answer your question but there's some excellent info for converting mkv here:
MKV

While it may not solve your ffmpeg issues it might get you to the end result required via another route
