transferring files

I would like to transfer a specific file to a specific folder on a backup portable hard drive. This was easy using windows explorer but have been unable to figure it out using finder. Please assist...Thanks

open a finder window, hit cmd -n which will open another and cmd-click and drag to move.. or cmd -c to copy and cmd-v to paste. It's really pretty much the same as windows.

Not sure I get it. How can I see the files on my hard drive and all of the folders on my backup drive at the same time so that I can click and drag? thanks

sorry just got it; i'm slow; now if i can disable the trackpad i'm in business
