shutting down

When I leave my 20" iMac switched on for a few hours, I often return to wake it up to a message that BOINC would not shut down and the shut down was therefore suspended. Since I leave it on during the day so that BOINC can run (and the computer is available) there is no reason for it to shut down. The "put to sleep" option in the Energy Saver section is set to "Never".

Is there somewhere other than Energy Saver where shut down options are set?

Your Mac's Specs
Al iMac 20" 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
So you're saying your Mac is trying to shut itself off without you telling it to?

There's no way to shut it off unless you select it from the Apple menu.

Mac shutting down

I found the answer about ten minutes after that post.

I had the auto-logoff set at 120min. When it did that, BOINC caused it to lock up and it was difficult to tell what had happened.

BTW the BOINC is for Seti@Home.
