Free Finance Software?

I'm looking for a descent finance management software. Something simple and free. I've tried a few out there, namely Buddi and CashBox I didn't like them too much. There's one Ive seen called Balance but anyplace with a dload link is dead. I bet it's discontinued, but is there anything similar to that, that's similar?

so I put up a post yesterday about an opensource(free) accounting software: jgnash that received fairly good reviews. It's not quickbooks but it's comparable.

it's compatible w/ mac os as well as linux but my problem is that I am not able to install it properly even after the newest version of java install...

if you figure it out.. please post!!!
