I have just aquired an ibook G3 600mhz and have added some RAM to give me 640mb. I have been given a copy of OS X 10.4 DVD to install as i see it can be done but I am having problems installing it. it all begins well enough but then seems to stall. Any idea's?

What is the current OS? I'd be cautious about trying to install too new an OS on such an old machine. It might work better with 10.3.

600mhz and 640mb ram is plenty for tiger, if it's too slow turn off spotlight and widgets.

I've had this issue happen plenty of times in the past, check your disk to make sure it's not scratched. If it is (some drives are more sensitive to this than others) try burning a copy of the OSX install disk on another computer, and install using that. This has worked for me in the past.

Also, try taking out the extra 512mb ram, install osx, then put it back in.

Lastly, as mentioned above, be sure to reformat the hard disk with disk utility and then install.
