I may be naive in asking this, but just in case there's an easy fix!

I have Mac OS 10.5.5 and plenty enough of everything to run a game easily, the problem is...

I downloaded a demo of the game Prey, liked it and bought it. Got it today, got home installed it to my applications folder, double clicked on the icon and all I get is a " The application Prey quit unexpectedly" message pop up! I tried Relaunch but to no avail!

I'm new to macs and wondered if I have made some error! I don't see how though, the installation process seems pretty idiot proof to me!

Any help would be appreciated!

Check the prey website and grab the patches for the game.

FYI: This should become second nature for all gamers. Always check the site for any patches after a fresh install of a boxed edition - especially 3D games.

Thanks again, Bobtomay!
I've had a rubbish day and would have liked it to work!
I will have a look for patches and let you know!

Ah, new problem! It would appear that there is no patch for the mac version! There's a "mac compatibility" patch but that is for Windows to enable online play against mac users.

I'm at a loss once more then (and £15 worse off!).

Any other ideas gratefully accepted!

Your next step is to check with the developer/saler of the game.

When I go to their site, I'm finding a v1.3 patch

v1.3 Patch

This update include compatibility files for the Mac port of Prey.

and the download link

Edit: I take it back - it is a .exe file after you unzip it.

They need to learn some grammar.

Yep, next step as rman says it to check with their support. Typically will get much better help with most software from the developers, but games in particular.

Another thing you might try. Did you delete the demo version of the game?

Might try removing both versions, demo and retail. If it doesn't have an uninstaller, use AppDelete or something like that to remove the traces, and then try re-installing.

Hi. yes, deleted the demo by dragging it into the trash before installing the full game!
The developer's website had no help on it but there IS a support link so may try that!
Will have to try tonight as I'm off to work now!

Thanks again!

Aha! It works! Though not by my own doing! My rather clever and very mac friendly housemate has fixed it! As there is no patch, I believe hedownloaded the free demo and somehow THAT patched it!

Whatever he did, it works fine now!
