I am looking to buy a new 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro from Apple.

I have read that it is cheaper to fit Crucial memory yourself compared to having Apple customize the machine at the time of purchasing the laptop.

Given the MacBook Pro comes with 2GB out of the box, to upgrade to 4GB would I need to buy only 2GB and plug that in adding to (alongside)the standard memory, or, buy a 4GB kit to replace the standard memory?

I'm not sure how many slots are used as standard.

Thanks

You need to buy a 4Gb kit compromising of 2 x 2Gb sticks. Unfortunately Apple supply 2Gb as 2 x 1Gb sticks. Buy it from Crucial - it's much cheaper and is so very easy to install. I did this just after Christmas and it's made a huge difference with my video editing.
