Is there a risk of damaging the computer with a static electric shock?

Only if you open it up and touch one of the mounted components after you rub your cat during the dry Winter months. :D

Nope, the electronic components inside are electrically insulated from the case. The risk of static damage is no worse than any other laptop. That being said, ALWAYS make sure you have touched something grounded before you touch any internal components of your laptop (HD, battery, RAM, etc.)
