time machine question?

Hi
I just got a new mbp and transfered my stuff back from time machine
Drag and drop, not restore.
I decided to delete my back up cus I want to start again.
When I deleted the time machine folder it removed over 1.5 million files!!!
It has been backing up for just over a year.
Does this sound right? And if so where have all these files come from.
I thought it just added new stuff, not duplicate every time.

Well depending how big your HDD is, that 1.5 million is probably many backups and all the files together, remember that it keeps back ups from a previous weeks depending on the size of the HDD.
