how to make hidden files

hi, i have a macbook and i'm not savvy with computers at all. I know how to get around and use the apps and all but that's about it. I've tried looking stuff up online on how to make a file hidden with a mac but i can't follow. is there a way to do it so that the file is relatively easy to add stuff to and access? the file isn't big or anything, just a few word documents..don't know if that matters or not but anyways thanks for any help!

The easiest way to hide a file in OS X is to put a period before its name. If you need to avoid renaming your files that way, then try one of the myriad apps out there that provide greater flexibility:

Way... way too many specs to list.
that'll work, so will starting the file name with a . it's a different type of hidden file though
