    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

I see there is a download on the Apple website for iMovie 6 HD. I currently have iMovie 08 and a Sony HDR-SR11 HD camcorder with USB2. Is it worth downloading iMovie HD? And if so what are the benefits?

Thanks

Yes, it is worth it, but only if you're not buying iLife '09 (which has iMovie '09)

This is because iMovie '08 has limited editing capabilities, it is more of a drag-n-drop editing program. It is easier to use as well.

iMovie 6 HD has video & audio effects, which are very useful and fun to use. It is a little more complicated, but not much more. If you are planning on using iMovie 6 HD in conjunction with iMovie 08, it is a bit annoying to transfer the 06 movie to 08. But for me, the only reason for doing this would be to be able to use iLife 08 sound effects.

iMovie '09 has video effects, but they are more of just whole clip effects. By this I mean that iMovie 6 HD has things like lightning bolts, stardust effects, etc. that can be put into the movie whereas 09 is more like aged film, black & white, sepia, etc. Also, you can use plugins in 6 HD to get more effects.

The aspect of iMovie '09 that is compelling me to buy it is its video stabilization feature. It can stabilize shaky videos and make them look professional.

I realize thats a lot of stuff to consider, but hopefully it helps.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

That's some great info pantstofry.

Is it worth downloading a free app? It's free! Grab it. Check it out. Only you can decide if it's for you or you're happy with '08.

There's no registry rot with OS X like there is with Windows from installing and uninstalling a bunch of apps. Download and install - what, 5 minutes or so. Play with it awhile. You like it, keep it. You don't, drag it to the trash.

Thank you for the informative replies everyone. Much appreciated. I will give it a go. Im a complete novice to both the Mac world and also video editing but since "switching" its become a most enjoyable experience.

I shall give Imovie HD a go.
