MS Word for Mac 2008 - Compatibility

MacBook Air OS X 10.7 1.7 Intel Core i5 4GB, MacMini mid-2011
Anyone have compatibility issues with MS Word for Mac 2008? When documents created are used in MS Word (PC) pre-2007, I have having issues with tables - do not show up properly and cause printing problems (prints one row per page). Also issues with pasting in pictures from excel or excel objects.

I also seem to get corrupted files that cannot be opened on a PC.

Anyone solve some of these problems?
