Samsung vs. Sony TV Volume Control

I have a sony HD tv. I don't remember the model number completely, but i know it's a 40" 720p. But anyway, none of that matters... I'm wondering about the volume control. I can set my surround sound system volume to a fixed volume, and then use the tv's internal volume control (by turning the internal speakers of via the Wega Gate Menu) to control the output level through the RCA connections. it's really quite useful. I was wondering if my Samsung LN-T4042H can do this. I'm planning on buying a Samsung LN40A650, and the volume thing is an important feature to me.

i have recently purchased a LN40A550. i think that the volume control only works on video coming through the tuner. i am not sure and i have to make sure. i noticed now that my sat tv comes through hdmi, commercials are a lot louder than the shows i am watching. when we had cable, i do not recall having that problem coming through rf jack.

I did some extensive research (asking the samsung specialists) and they said that this feature was not supported. He did however say that it was a good feature to include later :Hopeful:

i have had that feature in the past and currently have a samsung but i find it doesnt matter now as i run all sound directly to the stereo and then to the tv from there. i actually run all my sound to the stereo first for everything. the only cables that i connect to my tv are for video.

since you brought this topic up i thought it was funny that i realized that i do not think i have heard the speakers at all on any of my last 3 or 4 tv's

The only problem with that, for me at least, is that my surround sound system doesn't have HDMI inputs/outputs, and I use HDMI from the xbox360. lol oh well, it's really no big deal...
