Importing from Sony HDR-SR11 To imovie HD/ '08

Greetings forum,
I have tried searching threads and other sites. Still no luck. I have some content that I recorded on my Sony HDR-SR11 in HD SP. What do I need to do to get it into Imovie? I have MPEG streamclip and I drag my .MTS (That is the format sony records in "MPEG Transport Stream) into the program and it says. "File open error: unsupported file type".

Is there another converter for AVCHD? There is also talk of needing firewire. The camera came with a usb cable. What to do Mac forum? IS there a problem like this with Final Cut pro? Thanks for all the help everyone.
I have OSX 10.5.6. Mac pro 3.0 quad. 3 gig ram. Help me please!

Yes, you need to use firewire. On the Sony it is called iLink.

It is a current Intel MAC and brand new camera. other sites say I do not need firewire!!! What the deal yo! Can any one else help?

L4yer_mk, I think you are making the same mistake I was making when I first got my Sony (I have the same camera) which was to try to import the .MTS files into iMovie. You need to allow iMovie to pull the files off of the camera.

I simply connect the camera to my MacBook. I then get a prompt asking about allowing a USB connection and whether to use the hard drive or the memory stick (sorry, I don't have my camera in front of me).

Once you have made this selection, iMovie should be able to detect the camera. iMovie will then give you the option as to what to import.
