So last night I was browsing the apple website because im interested in getting a newer macbook pro. (Glass) The lowest priced macbook pro was 1999 with only 2.4 Ghz, 250 GB Hdd and 2 gb ram with the 256 mb 9400 and 9600 gt graphics.
So I was currious and looked at the refurbs, and there it was, same exact one for only $1,699. Well this was at 5 am this morning and it is now 11:40am and its gone. :Shouting: Man i really am kicking myself for that one!
So here i am. In need of a macbook pro. And there is another refurb that is just starring at me with big puppy dog eyes.

So now im in quit a bit of a dilima. There is another refurb with 2.53 Ghz 4 GB ram and 320 Gb Hdd, with ONLY the 256 graphics cards. (94 and 9600's) for $2,149. So should i pay the extra $450 for the .14 Ghz, extra 2 gb ram and 70gb HDD?
If it came with the 512mb Graphics card i would have already purchased it. But it only has the 256mb 9400 & 9600m GT.
What should I do?

Go with the refurb and save your money. Those slight upgrades aren't worth $450. You could add extra memory and a larger HDD yourself for much less. Of course the processor isn't upgradeable, but 140MHz is nothing.

They are both refurbs (that im looking at) the one for 1699 is gone though. I dont know if its worth it to just buy the 2149 for the features I can get. Like I said, if it had the 512 mb gfx card it would be a great buy, but it doesn't.

thats an odd combo isnt it, 2.53 with only 256mb Vram?

you cant spec a MBP like that.

is that common for refurbs to have odd specs like that?

edit: its on the US store yah? i think it is the 512mb graphics card, see below where it lists the graphics specs, it shows 512mb graphics memory.
Perhaps just a error in the listing?

Wow your right. But is that both graphics cards combined? Or is that the highest graphics model?

it is the higher specced graphics card.

just a little bit confusing the way its worded, but the 9400 has access to 256mb of the main system memory, then it has the 512mb 9600 card.

i thought that sounded like a very odd spec initially.

Go to the macmall website and compare prices. The have previous and current models that are new and have rebates available and may not charge sales tax. The Apple Store online will charge the premium price plus your local sales tax.

aluminum MacBook: 2.4GHZ Core 2 Duo, 3GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDEA GeForce 9400M, 250 GB HDD (32GB for Vista)
But the 2.53GHZ MBP has 6MB cache where the 2.4GHZ has only 3MB cache which makes the higher priced one just ready to go and better. If you're fine with a refurb product, I'd go for the 2.53GHZ one.
