After disconnecting the power chord i typically have only several seconds until my PB G4 shuts down down completely, making a sound similar to a hard reset (pressing and holding the power button). Sometimes it will try to come back to life (fan spins up for < 1 second, then the reset sound again), it might repeat those sounds several times.
The funny thing is i can put it to sleep (close the lid), unplug it and leave it for hours before waking it back up, as long as i plug it back in beforehand. This rules out a faulty battery, which by the way i've only had for a few months.
To further complicate things, the DC power contact (the power socket in the PB) is wearing out: the yellow light ring will die when moving the power chord around and i have to fiddle with the connector slightly to establish proper contact again (without it my PB shuts down ). The issue seems very mechanical: leaving the power chord and connector untouched, it never breaks contact.
Can anyone tell me what hardware part is the culprit? If its not too expensive i will buy a new one and replace it myself. Could it just be the DC connector confusing the system when unplugged?
