avi to dvd using toast

I am new to mac so I need a little help. I am trying to create a dvd from several avi files using toast 9. The dvd's play fine but there is no sound, this has happened on two separate attempts.

I have heard that iDVD will convert avi's to dvd but I couldn't figure out how to do this. Can someone point me toward a tutorial? THanks
