Dropped MacBook pro. Repair or replace?

Well, my 2007 2.2 mbp took a tumble down the stairs
It's banged up pretty bad so I'm claiming on my contents insurence.
They said if they can't repair it they will replace it like for like
The damage is as follows:
Battery casing broken (only runs off ac adapter not batery)
Screen broken (multiple cracks)
Chasis bent down both side (ports are all bent)
Lid bent, won't close properly
Hard drive sounds funny

My question is this, does anyone know if with the damage listed
They are likely to repair it or give me a new one?
And if they replace it, would it be a new one (2008 model) or some kind of refurb with my current spec?

Any info would be great.

Its sounds like a pretty beat up macbook, sure you gonna get a replacement if thats an option.

It sounds like they will replace it with the closest available model. The base model MBP 2.4 is a likely candidate.

I have 4 gig ram in my current machine, will that drop into the new model
or are the new ones ddr3 only. i believe the 4 gig i have is ddr2

i hope im not getting ahead of myself.... they will probablpy just bend it back, chuck a new screen on and send it back

Knowing what insurance companies are like, just make sure its not a netbook with an Apple sticker on it

It won't just drop into the new model as it uses DDR3.

It's hard to say what the insurance company will do. It depends on your policy. Some policies will reimburse you for actual replacement costs, some will only pay for actual value at the time of the incident. Either way, you'll need to get an estimate of repair from a certifiable source before they'll cut you a check. Take it to an Apple Store and get a written estimate for the repair. Also, get a quote for a comparable new machine (including the upgraded memory). That should get you on your way.

I seem to be into the claim already.
My insurance company passed me onto another
Company who will be picking it up on Tuesday.
They said that they will look at it and if they can't fix it they will replace
It, like for like.
Hopefully like for like is a new mbp with 4 gig ram
After all this talk I hope they do replace it.
From what I can make out they would have to definatly have to replace the entire chasis, put a new screen on it and replace the battery.
That to me does not sound like an economical repair.

Well let's hope they'll give give you a replacement ..It sounds like our MBP is pretty banged up..O.O.

I've just been looking at a web site called the bookyard.
I worked out that the bits it will take fix it come to about
£1000 then I guess labour on top.
Need bottom case, top case, lid, LCD and battery.
Does anyone else have experiance with insurance replacements of laptops.
Although I will find out in a few days what he outcome will be, I just wondered if anyone has had a simmolar experiance.

You're in the UK but here in the US, unless the machine was "scheduled" (listed separately at full value) most insurance companies will likely adjust the replacement cost against any deductible and\or current value.

Most folks here would probably claim the loss using their home owner's policy unless they had a separate policy. Home owner's policies in the US usually come with a 1% deductible (the 1% is based on the value of your home).

btw I thought both 15" came with 2 gig ram. Aparently not
