I had a few home made movies in avi format

i want them to play on ps2 so i used toast 9 and set it to burn dvd IT WORKED!!! on ps2.... now i had one file that was a .dat and converted to avi and used toast 9 did the same thing AND WILL NOT WORK.... I then took that video and converted to mpeg-2 the .dat using VISUAL HUB!!! AND then used the roxio toast and did the same steps AND IT WORKED!!! NOW what i want to know is why>?????? i thought toast 9 can handle anything

Nope. Toast can't even handle simple files like .FLV
In fact you need to download a plugin called Perian. It allows the conversion of many formats, also allows you to play many formats in quicktime. Try download it, run it. It will sit in your PREFs, and tell me if you can now convert the .dat file.:)
