• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

I'm trying to import my movies from a Sony DCR-SR36 Handycam into iMovie 6.0.3. The camera is recognised when connected via usb, the movies are shown as files, but cannot be opened. Does any body know of a fix?
Thanks, Reuben

iMovie HD does not import via USB. You need to use Firewire (iLink), but I don't think your camera has that.

It looks like your camera is a hard disk based model. MAYBE iMovie 08 will work. I'd take the camera and cable into an Apple dealer and test it before paying for iLife.

If you can drag and drop the files onto your local drive then maybe MPEG Streamclip can convert the files for use with iMovie.

I can import my movies from my Sony hard drive camcorder (DCR-SR100) right into iMovie 08.
