Is there a way to get rid of all names and passwords on a mac? i bought this mac used, and the guys name is plastered all over it, and i go into the accounts in system pref and i need a password to change the name and to even install some programs. i can see the password dots, there are 7 letters and the password hint is pasta, but i can not seem to crack it, so is there a way around this? thanks.

You can just reinstall the OS. That will wipe out all the old users and account info.

The number of dots don't represent the number of characters in the password. (At least, not on my system)

No telling what is lurking in the background on your system…if it was me, I would wipe out everything and start anew. Like schweb suggested…reinstall the OS, but I would take it another step and erase the volume(s).
