I have G4 733MHZ. It was the top of the line when I bought it. Some of the newer hardware/software systems I am interested in specify a faster Mac. What is the most economical way to aquire a faster Mac. Can I upgrade just the processor or the motherboard? What about used hardware?

Here's everything you wanted to know about your G4 and its upgrade potential:
Apple Power Macintosh G4 733 (Digital Audio) Specs (Digital Audio - M7681LL/A*) @ EveryMac.com
and Mactracker Mactracker - get info on any Mac

Used Hardware - I have a G3 which I upgraded with 2 hard drives, you can put 4 inside your G4, but maximum capacity per drive is 128 Gb. That would make for an interesting array, perhaps Classic on one of the hard drives, another for OS X, another for backup and one simply for storage.

as hughvane says, the internal ATA bus can only recorgnise drives up to 128 gig

that said, larger external drives can be used with the addition of an inexpensive USB 2 card, just like I have on this quicksilver

What are the specs and details of the USB2 card Louishen, eg. in which slot is it placed? I'm wondering if one would work in my b/w G3.
