MAC Mini
Hello,

I am running 10.5.6 on a Intel MacMini (2 ghz) and for the last few weeks NO CDs will play. These include commercial audio CDs, data CDs both homemade and commercial (driver CDs for example). Sometimes they are just ejected and sometimes the OS reports that a blank (not true) CD has been placed in the machine.

DVDs on the other hand all work fine.

New to mac and need help,

Well this one is different! It's usually the other way round, cds okay, dvds no.

If the drive will not read or accept commercial cds, then there is probably a fault with the drive lens. It can be cleaned with a cleaning cd from a technology store, or a blast of compressed air from a can might do the job.

Failing that, it's probably time to consider a replacement optical drive. For a Mac Mini, a standard 5.25 drive will fit, and I recommend Pioneer brand. They are not expensive and they work well with Mac. If you need guidance about opening up a Mac Mini, see here: YouTube - Upgrading Mac Mini
