Yesterday, after receiving the software update prompt i downloaded a 166meg file for my intel macbook. After installation, hitting the 'restart' button my mac shutdown then attempted to re-boot. Since last night the only page i get is the grey screen with the apple logo and the whirly circular thing and that is it. It still shows that now. My mac was working perfectly until this happened now what can i do to get my mac working again?

thanks for the info...

However, my macbook doesn't even get to the startup! It only gets as far as the startup screen with the whirly circular thing going round and round and that is it! The only way to stop that is by powering off then power on and it goes back to the same page as above. Is there any way i can go into a safe type mode a la windows? (spit i know) to bypass this so i can at least use my macbook?

The information looks ok on your link by the way... If only i could do that!

Ah sorry... I thought that link would cover your issue as well.

Looks like an archive & install might be the way to go:
- pop in your MacBook's DVD
- Hold down "c"
- Select the DVD as the boot drive
- Proceed to install os x
- At some point you can select "type of installation". Pick "Archive & Install"

This will preserve all your files and settings, but will fix the OS.
