Leopard; word application; problem

When I am in Word, I click File; Open and then a big long box that says "open" on top appears. At the bottom of the box is a drop box that says "enable" and lists a bunch of formats. Inside the box does not show any of my files. This box will not go away and I have to force quit each time. Anyone know what may be causing this problem? All my other programs work and open fine.

Under Enable, you should select 'All Office Documents' or something to that effect. This box determines which files you can open with Word.
