Desktop and Screensaver doesn't respond in System Preferences

In system preferences, when I click "desktop and screensaver" the preview menu is black, and the application doesn't respond.

I spoke with a lady from apple last week and she had me to delete a com.apple.preferences.plist ~ file and it fixed it.

Now it's doing it again now and I can't seem to fix it.. when I delete the plist file now, it still freezes.

Any advice?

Alright .. I'm really trying here..

I deleted all files I could find that had anything to do with preferences.plist or desktop .plist.

I deleted everything in the cache folder

I don't know what else to do.. please help

Try restarting your Mac then repair disk permissions using disk utility.

My issue resolution

I had the same problem, but more specifically it would freeze because it tried loading the iphoto screen saver. I found that in:
~/Library/Preferences

I had two plist files that pertained to iLife (which contains iphoto)

com.apple.iLife08.plist
and
com.apple.iLife09.plist

I got rid of the older one, now it works.
