Gmail + Apple Mail

I am currently wanting to use Apple Mail with Google Mail as my default email client, however, a small feature of it annoys me.

Even after I have downloaded an email through Apple Mail, it is still marked as unread in my googlemail inbox.

Is there anyway of marking emails as "read" after they've been downloaded?

Are you using POP or IMAP? Might want to try IMAP.

Yeah use IMAP, that will take care of that issue.

I just use POP put have it in Gmails settings to Archive the emails after they've been downloaded that way the emails are still there but I have an empty webmail inbox
